Aronia Berries (Aronia melanocarpa) are commonly called black chokeberries. They are a deciduous shrub frequently used by landscapers because its beautiful deep green leaves which change to scarlet in autumn, white clusters of flowers in late spring, and deep violet berries grow up to 8 feet tall, making a lush windbreak for border plantings.

Aronia Berries are harvested in autumn, and used for juice, jams, winemaking, and food coloring. There is a growing interest in the health benefits, it has five to ten times the anthocyanins (which cause the deep color of the berries), and flavonoids (a naturally occurring compound in plants thought to provide health benefits through cell signaling).
